GLOBE students at Birch Lane Elementary School had a special opportunity to show off their GLOBE activiites on March 26, 1997. Members of the school's STAR TREK LAB - which stands for "Science Teams Are Rad when Traveling 'Round Earth with Kids" - hosted a visit by a number of dignitaries, including Congressman Vic Fazio, Mayor Lois Wolk, and GLOBE Trainer Tom Suchanek. The honoraries were treated to lunch and then got first hand experience with the GLOBE science and technolgy GLOBE activities.

GLOBE teacher Holiday Matchett was especially pleased with Rep. Fazio's opinion of the day. "He was so impressed with the knowledge and maturity of our 4th, 5th and 6th graders, all of whom instructed the Congressman on how to measure and record data."

The Congressman and other guests visited the GLOBE weather station, the soil surevey site, and Birch Lane's home page on the Internet.
