Serving Adult Students

The Office of Continuing Education's (CEd) Department of Credit Programs is an enrollment unit with special emphasis on academic advising for adult students who have not declared a degree program but who want to take undergraduate courses at Ohio State.

Here, you’ll find central Ohio nontraditional students who want the Ohio State experience and adult-focused services. As an example, some of our students enroll through CEd to try a course or two before committing themselves to a degree program. When they decide to pursue a degree at Ohio State, they may transfer enrollment and credits earned through CEd to the appropriate enrollment unit. Other examples:

bullet Students with some college credit who are reentering the university environment
bullet Adults attending college for the first time
bullet Adults who want to update job skills, widen career options or explore a new discipline
bullet Professionals (such as educators and social workers) renewing certification/licensure
bullet Students completing prerequisites for graduate or professional study
bullet Lifelong learners who enjoy academic opportunity and seek new ideas
bullet Students from other colleges who want to transfer Ohio State credit to another degree program.

What does Ohio State offer the adult student? At Ohio State, you’ll find ideas you never imagined. Go here to explore a list of Ohio State colleges and schools, and here to search courses.

We’re here to help
CEd's academic advisors understand that adult students face unique challenges. They’re here to help you make the transition easier and assist you in course selection and scheduling. They’ll help you determine your eligibility and point you in the right direction to get started.

Our office is conveniently located on Ohio State’s West Campus at 152 Mount Hall, 1050 Carmack Rd. near Fred Beekman Park. Get directions to our office. To get started or make an appointment with an academic advisor, call 614-292-8860.
