Washington, D.C. -- The U.S. Office of Personnel Management offers this list of federal holidays for calendar year 1998 for your reference and use in reporting on the federal community during the coming year. It contains all 10 dates that are official holidays for Executive Branch employees.

Martin Luther King, Jr., Birthday Monday, January 19
Washington's Birthday Monday, February 16
Memorial Day Monday, May 25
Independence Day Friday, July 3*
Labor Day Monday, September 7
Columbus Day Monday, October 12
Veterans Day Wednesday, November 11
Thanksgiving Day Thursday, November 26
Christmas Day Friday, December 25

* July 4, 1998, falls on a Saturday. Under 5 United States Code (U.S.C.) 6103(b)(1), if a holiday falls on Saturday, the Friday immediately before is the legal holiday for employees whose basic workweek is Monday through Friday. For employees who do not have Monday through Friday workweeks, holidays are determined in accordance with 5 U.S.C. 6103(b)(2) and (d) and Executive Order 11582 of February 11, 1971.
