OPM Director Kicks Off Public Service Recognition Week and Congratulates the Important Work of Federal Workers
James Hails Federal Employee Role

Washington, DC – During a “Breakfast of Champions” to launch Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW), the Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, Kay Coles James, spoke of the need to “shine a light” on the many contributions federal employees have made -- and continue to make -- to keep America proud.

“Since last year’s terrorist attacks, there has been a new spirit of excellence in public service that can only come from a great sense of purpose,” said James. “Across the nation, there has been a renewed respect for what public employees do, with polls showing greater support for the public sector than we’ve seen in years.”

In addition to marking the opening event of PSRW, the breakfast was used as the venue to recognize individuals and organizations that have exemplified the highest standards of public service.

“Citizens across the nation feel the call to public service at a time when our nation’s resolve is being tested. And it is through this resolve and through those who have dedicated themselves to public service that we find purpose and strength,” said James. “They remind us that there is no more important work – no more noble calling – than public service.”

During this year’s PSRW, May 6-11, OPM will showcase the work federal employees perform to ensure our government functions effectively, and it will provide information on a number of its programs, such as USAJOBS, Long-Term Care, Telework, E-training and Federal Employees Health Benefits.
