September 30, 1998: The Office of Personnel Management will kick off its 1998 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) on October 1, 1998 at 2 p.m. in the Alan K. Campbell Auditorium. This years theme is Caring through the Decades. [News Release]

September 30, 1998: President Bill Clinton has directed U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director Janice R. Lachance to determine whether an emergency leave transfer program is necessary, and render other benefits assistance, to federal employees affected by Hurricane Georges, which recently hammered Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi. September 28, 1998: OPM Director Janice R. Lachance will present Vice President Al Gores prestigious Hammer Award to employees of the St. Paul Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office and Insurance Center and Internal Revenue Service District Office on Wednesday, September 30. [News Release]

September 25, 1998: As part of U.S. Office of Personnel Managements efforts to improve the representation of Hispanics in the federal workforce, OPM Director Janice R. Lachance today presented Ricardo Fernández, President of Lehman College, with an electronic federal job information kiosk. The announcement was made during a press conference at Lehman College, the Bronx. [News Release]

September 21, 1998: The U.S. Office of Personnel Management and the Interagency Advisory Group continue the successful series of satellite broadcasts on issues of interest and importance to the human resources community with the September 23 airing of Technology and Human Resources: Are You Keyed Up? The federal governments information management community also will find some grist for thought with broadcast segments on how agencies are using automation and the Internet to train employees and assist them with career choices. September 18, 1998: In response to Vice President Al Gores announcement that the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) will be implementing the protections underlined in President Clintons Patients Bill of Rights, OPM Director Janice R. Lachance today said that these protections are available at a cost of less than 25 cents annually per enrollee. Lachance joined the Vice President during an event to announce health care initiatives, at Keene State College in New Hampshire. [News Release]

September 11, 1998: Driven by rising costs for prescription drugs and other pressures in the overall health care economy, premiums in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program will increase by an average 10.2 percent in 1999. That figure assumes enrollees remain with their current plan during the 1999 FEHB Program Open Season, which runs from November 9 to December 14 this year. During that period, all participants have the option of moving to a different health care plan or remaining where they are. [News Release]

September 3, 1998: On behalf of the National Partnership Council (NPC), OPM Director Janice R. Lachance will present John N. Sturdivant National Partnership Awards to federal agencies for their successes with reinvention of government initiatives. The award ceremony will be held on September 9 (Wednesday) and will be broadcasted live, via satellite, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. eastern time.[News Release]
