September 30, 1997: Janice Lachance, Acting Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, announced today the release of an exciting new CD-ROM called Benefits Center. Benefits Center is a virtual, interactive CD-ROM that provides easy to understand, accurate information about benefits for employees who are in career transition, as well as those who simply want information about their benefits. September 29, 1997: The U.S. Office of Personnel Management is issuing interim regulations to implement certain provisions of the National Capital Revitalization and Self-Government Improvement Act of 1997, which requires that certain employees of the District of Columbia be considered federal employees for purposes of federal retirement, health and life insurance coverage. September 26, 1997: Federal health plan enrollees will continue to pay lower average rates than the private sector as they have since 1995, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management said today in announcing that premiums for the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program will increase by an average of 8.5 percent for 1998. September 25, 1997: A small federal office located at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) plays an important role in combating waste, fraud, and abuse in the American health care system, resulting in approximately $300 million in recoveries and disallowed costs for the taxpayers since 1994, and ensuring the integrity of that health care system for federal employees, retirees and their survivors. OPMs Office of the Inspector General is charged with auditing and investigating over 450 Health Maintenance Organization rating areas and 90 fee-for-service audit sites that compose the governments own health insurance plan, known as the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program. September 22, 1997: Up to 40 hours of excused absence will be extended to federal employees on duty in the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995, so that they may attend the trial of Terry Nichols. [News Release]

September 18, 1997: U.S. Office of Personnel Management Acting Director Janice Lachance called upon federal agencies to adopt a nine-point plan aimed at recruiting greater numbers of qualified Hispanic-Americans for federal service and improving their opportunities for management and senior executive positions. September 16, 1997: The U.S. Office of Personnel Management has issued new standards which will shape the future development and selection of the federal governments executive corps. [News Release]

September 11, 1997: Office of Personnel Management Acting Director Janice Lachance will be a keynote speaker at the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (Region VII) Fourth Biennial Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Monday, September 15 at 9:15 a.m. (Rocky Mountain Time). September 9, 1997: The Office of Personnel Management today proposed a plan to help current and former federal employees who were placed in the wrong retirement system. OPMs proposal provides a solution to those people who have been disadvantaged by an error in their retirement coverage. [News Release]

September 5, 1997: Seven outstanding labor-management partnerships born of the Clinton Administrations determination to create a government that works better and costs less will be honored at a national ceremony on Wednesday, September 10. The honorees, who will receive their awards at the Administrations National Partnership Council (NPC) ceremony, are part of labor-management teams at federal agencies who worked together to improve customer service and save tax dollars.
