March 20, 1997: After less than one year in operation, the newly-privatized, employee-owned US Investigations Services, Inc. -- a spin-off of OPM's Investigations Service -- is poised to cut costs ahead of schedule and save taxpayers an additional $1.2 million by 1998. [News Release]

March 19, 1997: The Clinton Administration's National Partnership Council will help kick-off the first day of the Federal Managers Association's annual convention on Friday, March 21, beginning at 9 a.m. The FMA invited the Council to the convention to share its vision of partnership during the next four years. March 19, 1997: One year after their opening and 448 clients later, eight intergovernmental organizations that helped design and coordinate the on-going operation of five Metro Area Reemployment Centers received Vice President Al Gore's Hammer Award. [News Release]

March 19, 1997: A recent General Accounting Office (GAO) study reports savings of over $600 million in 1995 by three health plans participating in OPM’s Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program. These savings also reduced pharmacy benefit costs of the plans studied by between 20 and 27 percent. [News Release]

March 19, 1997: Federal decision-makers facing a September 30, 1997, deadline to develop their agencies’ strategic plans should be certain to see the April 2, 1997, Interagency Satellite Broadcast which will demonstrate how some agencies are defining their missions, setting goals, and developing performance measurements based on results. March 19, 1997: Washington, D.C. -- U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director Jim King today announced the assignment of a Voting Rights Examiner to the State of Texas for a special election in Bexar County's District 28. This election is being held there on March 15, 1997. Voting Rights Examiners are federal employees assigned by OPM, under the authority of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (as amended), to receive complaints of discriminatory voting practices during specified elections.[News Release]

March 7, 1997: Employees who fall short on time-in-service for retirement eligibility, but face the loss of their jobs due to downsizing, can apply their accrued annual leave in order to reach the eligibility threshold, under interim rules issued today by OPM. The new rules also address the use of accrued annual leave for employees, in the same situation, to continue health benefits coverage in retirement. [News Release]
