April 29, 1999: Vice President Al Gore this afternoon honored 54 members of the federal governments Senior Executive Service with the Presidential Rank Award of Distinguished Executive. The annual award recognizes governments top executives for their extended exceptional performance in government resulting in more cost-efficient service to the public and valuable contributions in leading vital federal programs. April 21, 1999: Janice R. Lachance, Director of the Office of Personnel Management, has acted upon a White House request and authorized a special solicitation for cash donations from federal employees and military personnel who wish to provide help to the Kosovar Albanian refugees. [News Release]

April 14, 1999: OPM Director Janice R. Lachance voiced her support for Kick Butts Day and Smoking Cessation Programs. "We must do everything we can to help people who want to quit, quit, and remind those who dont that smoking kills," said Director Lachance. [News Release]

April 14, 1999: OPM will sponsor a three-day summit in Kansas City, Missouri, from May 12 through 14 to bring together educators, child development experts, and leaders in quality workplace initiatives from around the country to address problems facing American working parents who are striving to balance the demands of work and family life. Lachance will speak about the challenges facing the human resources community in the next century during her keynote address at Solutions 99 - Achieving Results Together, OPMs conference for human resources employment professionals. The conference will be held at the University of Maryland University College Conference Center, College Park, Maryland, May 3 through 5. [News Release]

April 1, 1999: As the nations capital prepares to host the historic North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) 50th Anniversary Summit, the NATO Summit Working Group and the U.S. Office of Personnel Management today announced measures to minimize traffic congestion in downtown Washington while also facilitating the visit of over 40 heads of state and their staff during this event on April 23 through 25.
