July 29, 1993: Washington, D.C. -- Office of Personnel Management Director Jim King and President Bill Clinton have authorized measures that will bring immediate aid and security to people who have been devastated by the flooding along the Mississippi River and its tributaries. [News Release]

July 22, 1993: Washington, D,C, -- In response to the upheaval in the lives of federal retirees in the flood-stricken Midwest, the Office of Personnel Management has authorized the early release of their August annuity checks. Checks being issued for August 2 delivery include all of Iowa (2,556 checks), Missouri (2,164 checks), and parts of Illinois (11,662 checks), will be released to the Postal Service on July 26, two days ahead of schedule. July 21, 1993: Washington, D.C. -- Office of Personnel Management Director Jim King today issued regulations intended to balance the demands of the workplace with the needs of the family. The regulations entitle employees to receive extended, unpaid leave for births and adoptions, as well as family and medical emergencies. The interim regulations take effect August 5, 1993.
