YOU’RE HIRED!
Joining the Ranks of the FBI Has Just Gotten a Lot Easier

01/28/05

Federal Bureau of Investigation Jobs GraphicGood news for job hunters: the FBI is hiring—and not just Special Agents.

We’re looking for a few thousand good men and women with a wide range of technical, scientific, analytic, and other skills. We plan to hire over 2,000 support professionals this year alone.

The jobs? All over the map: Intelligence analysts. IT specialists. Fingerprint examiners. Lawyers. Linguists and translators. Electronic technicians. Investigative specialists. Administrative assistants. And more.

Now, our new online automated hiring management system makes it easier than ever for skilled professionals like you to join us. It speeds up the application process and helps us manage the thousands of non-agent applications we get each year (nearly 200,000 in 2004 alone).

So how does it work? Simple:

  • Go to Support Vacancies on our FBIJobs web site.
  • To get started, go to Click here to find support vacancies.
  • To take a quick look at the current openings, select the “Just Browsing” option.
  • To register (and you’ll need to register if you want to apply for a job), select the “New Users” option and click “Next” to establish your FBIjobs account. (Note: when you register, you’ll need to answer a few questions about yourself. This helps us identify who you are, how we can contact you, and your suitability for employment. And rest assured, our site is fully secure).
  • After you register, you can add your resumé.

Ready to apply? Great.

  • Start by clicking “View Vacancy Questions” at the bottom of the vacancy announcement to get an idea of the questions you’ll need to answer.
  • Then, click “Apply to this Vacancy” and answer the questions.
  • To submit your application, click “Finished.” And by the way, you can make changes to your application literally until the last minute—11:59 p.m. ET on the date the vacancy closes. However, help is available only during normal east coast working hours.

What happens next? The system automatically rates all the applications. Our human resource experts verify your qualifications and provide the lists of well qualified candidates to the selecting official. If you make the cut, you may be asked to come in for an interview. (Please note, the hiring process includes drug and polygraph tests and a thorough background investigation after conditional selections are made.)

In the meantime, if you’re wondering about the status of your application … Where you sign in, select the “View My Application Status” option. Questions? Contact the human resource specialist listed on the vacancy announcement or e-mail us at postings@ic.fbi.gov.

Stay tuned: We’ll roll out the new online automated hiring system for Special Agents later this year.
