When Director Mueller asked me to join the FBI family and serve as its CIO, I was honored to accept the position and continue my family’s tradition of service to the nation.
My father served in the Navy in Vietnam and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer Four after 30 years. After his retirement, he continued to serve the government as a civilian for another 11 years.
I graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1996. During my first assignment as an Ensign, I was tasked by a senior officer to create an Internet site. This was my first “technical experience,” and I realized I had found my niche. Because the Navy had limited opportunities in the information technology arena, I left the Navy after my five-year tour of service. I spent the next seven years in private industry focusing on strategic information technology architecture design, infrastructure engineering, and security matters.
When the opportunity arose, I did not hesitate to return to the federal government to serve in the top information technology position in the nation’s premier law enforcement agency.
I thank my predecessor, Zal Azmi, for establishing the foundation of the FBI’s information technology enterprise. I am committed to moving the Bureau forward in its information technology efforts with effective processes and complementary technologies that best support the FBI’s mission. I look forward to working with the FBI’s leaders and employees to ensure that the FBI has the technology required to protect the nation from terrorist threats and fight crime with the technology they need when they need it.
