Course: Leadership Challenge

Target: Participants must have completed at least one year of employment with BLM under a permanent appointment.  Those employees hired after January 1, 1999 must have completed the BLM self-study course, Orientation: Employee Handbook, 1400-01SS.

Goal:  Development of leadership potential focusing on the 27 Leadership Competencies identified by OPM as being key for organizational success.  The course provides participants with the tools for developing a plan of action to improve their leadership skills through a series of plenary sessions, skill-building workshops, and networking opportunities.  After the course, participants will develop an Individual Development Plan (IDP) with their supervisors.

Objectives:  Participants will:

1. Develop an understanding of the characteristics of effective leaders;
2. Develop a better understanding of themselves and how others see them, and identify areas of strength and opportunities for growth;
3. Build skills which foster the development of their leadership competencies;
4. Learn to use leadership skills to advance and transfer knowledge in their respective professional arenas;
5. Develop an action plan to support skill building and leadership development.
