Figure 2 is a bar chart showing the percentages of past month illicit drug use by age among persons aged 12 or older in 2002. In the chart, the largest percentage of past month illicit drug use was between the ages of 14 and 29, with the percentages of specific age categories as follows: 4.2 percent among persons aged 12 to 13, 11.2 percent among persons aged 14 to 15, 19.8 percent among those aged 16 to 17, 22.5 percent among those aged 18 to 20, and 8.7 percent and 12.8 percent among those aged 21 to 25 and 26 to 29, respectively. The percentages of past month use were 8.8 percent persons between the ages of 30 and 34, 8.6 percent among those between 35 and 39, 7.8 percent among those between 40 and 44, 7.5 percent among those between 45 and 49, 3.4 percent among ages 50 to 54, 1.9 percent among ages 55 to 59, 2.5 percent among ages 60 to 64, and 0.8 percent among persons aged 65 or older.
