Accreditation in the United States
This U.S. Department of Education site offers an overview of the accreditation of institutions of higher education. The goal of accreditation is to ensure that education provided by institutions of higher education meets acceptable levels of quality.

Education Policy Clearinghouse
This site, by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, is designed to help users access education policy and teacher quality information.

The Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) Database
ERIC is a centralized bibliographic database of journal articles and other published and unpublished educational materials and is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

Educator's Reference Desk
Offers links to 3,000 resources on a variety of educational issues, lesson plans, a question archive and the ERIC database.

eduPASS! The SmartStudent Guide to Studying in the USA
Information for international students on college admissions, passports and visas, traveling to and living in the United States and a discussion of cultural differences, among other topics.

English Language Programs

Federal Resources for Educational Excellence

Network for Education Information

Peterson's Distance Learning Programs

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
TOEFL measures the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use and understand North American English as it is spoken, written and heard in college and university settings. TOEFL's site includes a registration center, sample questions, test preparation tips, worldwide locations of test centers and other information about the TOEFL.

USA Study Guide
The Guide's professional staff specializes in matching qualified international students from around the world with US schools. It offers information on admissions, life in the USA, immigration, financing, a school search function, and more.

Bureau of Cultural and Educational Affairs, ECA (U.S. Department of State)
This U.S. State Department Bureau fosters mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries, largely through educational exchanges. It includes the International Visitor Program, Fulbright Program, and Office of English Language Programs, among others.

Guide to U.S. Department of Education Programs and Resources (Department of Education)
This guide, commonly referred to as the Guide to ED Programs, provides an overview of all Department of Education programs authorized and funded under federal law.

National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)
NCES, U.S. Department of Education, is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data related to education in the United States and other nations.

Describes the types of student visas, how to obtain one and general information about visa policy.

College Opportunities Online (COOL)
Compiled by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics, COOL is a direct link to nearly 7,000 colleges and universities in the U.S.

Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE)
CIEE, a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization, is a leader in international exchange programs and related services.

Education Resource Organizations Directory
This site from the U.S. Department of Education identifies organizations that provide information and assistance on a broad range of education-related topics.

Institute of International Education (IIE)
Resources for students, scholars, educators and university or college advisers as well as research on international education issues. A description of the Fulbright Program includes application information.

International Education Service (IES)
IES assists students in finding an appropriate college or university in the U.S. The site includes a listing of universities and colleges interested in attracting students from abroad as well as information for educational advisors.

NAFSA: The Association of International Educators
NAFSA promotes exchanges of students and scholars to and from the U.S. The association provides professional education and training and acts as a forum for sharing ideas on international education.

National Education Association (NEA)
Information about public schools and the issues they face, including reviews of pending legislation, from the association representing the concerns of public educators.
