News Jan 2009 > > LAND ho! The Association is delighted to announce that we have been awarded a grant of £273,000 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Local Food scheme. This is the first national grant to be awarded by Local Food and it is by far the biggest grant ever for the Association. It marks an exciting and important new phase of our work to make permaculture widely known and used across Britain. We are now recruiting for three new part-time members of staff – Network Coordinator, Learning Coordinator and Communications Coordinator – and the deadline for applications is the 17th February. News > > Interested in the future of farming? Well, this briefing explains the background to the International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD) and outlines its main recommendations and findings. This is a very important report and we encourage permaculture designers and sustainable farmers everywhere to find out more about it and use it to help make the major shift agriculture we know is needed. Full information and region by region summaries here. We have now held the initial meeting of the 'Low Carbon Farming' project (working title only) and you can view the initial minutes and proposal here.

News > > The International Permaculture Convergence 9 (IPC 9) will be held in Southern Africa in 2009 hosted by a network of organisations from Zimbabwe, South Africa and Malawi. We will be sponsoring an African delegate to attend the event and are proposing to sponsor Aaron Kalala Karumba to attend. He lives and works in Democratic Republic of Congo near the Rwanda border. This area has recently seen the end of a conflict which had destroyed much of the infrastructure and social structures in the area. Aaron attended Geoff Lawton’s PDC in Tanzania last year and has been working to develop projects to support rural communities since then. We would also like to sponsor another delegate from Africa and are working with groups there to identify a candidate. more...

A new site is currently being developed to take the place of this one. It will contain all the information from this website with additional interactive features and much more - it will offer more opportunities to contribute and edit content, will better support the work of permaculture and it will be easier to find your way around. You will continue to find up-to-date information on courses, news, jobs and projects and read about permaculture on this website. Development of the new site is making great progress and further updates will be posted here. The Permaculture Association is a consortium member of Local Food. Managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (RSWT) and 15 consortium members, on behalf of the BIG Lottery Fund, Local Food is a £50 million programme that will distribute grants to a variety of food-related projects to help make locally grown food accessible and affordable to local communities. more.....Thanks!
