GLOBE U.S. Partners
AMSTI - GLOBE (joined GLOBE on November 29, 2006)

The Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI) is the Alabama Department of Education's initiative to improve math and science teaching statewide. AMSTI trains teachers to deliver science and mathematics instruction through experiential, hands-on, minds-on approaches. The Alabama Department of Education has worked closely with the University of Alabama in Huntsville GLOBE Partnership over the last five years to develop activities that incorporate GLOBE within AMSTI. The resulting AMSTI-GLOBE model provides sound environmental awareness to teachers and students in Grades K-8 throughout Alabama.
The major goals for AMSTI-GLOBE are:
1. Continue summer teacher trainings in math and science until all K-8 teachers in Alabama have been trained in the GLOBE protocols;
2. Provide ongoing local support for all GLOBE trained teachers through the AMSTI specialists;
3. Provide GLOBE training to preservice teachers at the 10 institutions of higher education that are AMSTI sites; and
4. Share information and resources from GLOBE with the K-8 teachers in Alabama.
