GLOBE U.S. Partners
Adams County/Ohio Valley School District (joined GLOBE on September 22, 2006)

Adams County/Ohio Valley School District will work with schools and teachers primarily in Adams County, OH and the surrounding region. Our focus will be to work with students in grades 4-6, but all training and support will be extended to high school level teachers.
We believe that GLOBE fits in with our broad organizational goals by providing:

Specific protocols for teachers/students to follow to instill the concept that scientific investigations must be conducted the same way in order to produce reliable and reproducible data.
Means to integrate technology into science and math using the GLOBE data entry site.
Means for students to analyze data they have collected over a period via the GLOBE charts and graph site.
Provide students with active inquiry lessons that aide in the development of science and math concepts.
Practical application of math concepts particularly in defining a site, conversion of local time to UTM, and use of a compass and a GPS to enhance spatial sense.
Method to accurately use scientific tools (e.g. reading a thermometer, reading a turbidity tube, using calibrated instruments for pH and conductivity and other water tests, classification keys to identify macro invertebrates, using a clinometer to measure tree height.)

We have also identified several goals for our GLOBE partnership, which are to:
Offer training for all new science teachers grades 4-12
Extend this training to math teachers in grades 4-12.
Encourage and support cross-curricular integration of GLOBE in science and math classes within a grade level.
Provide ongoing support for use of the Atmosphere Stations located at each school.
Set up Ozone testing stations at the three High School locations.
Add the Surface Temperature Protocol in continuing training of teachers who have already been GLOBE trained.
Open any GLOBE workshops in Adams County to teachers in the surrounding counties and/or the Southern Ohio Region.
Identify those GLOBE protocols and activities that best support the grade level benchmarks and indicators in math and science and work with teachers to use these protocols and activities within their curriculum areas.
