Latent Print Support
Mission
The Latent Print Support Unit (LPSU) provides oversight and management of
various programs and initiatives in support of the Integrated Automated
Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS), Major Incident Management,
Standards and Practices, and Technology Development and Training to maintain
the Laboratory Division's ability to conduct and/or direct high-quality
friction ridge examinations in a professional, competent manner and ensure
compliance with FBI, Laboratory Division, and American Society of Crime
Laboratory Directors - Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD-LAB)/International
policies, procedures, and guidelines.
The Team
Supervisory fingerprint specialist, fingerprint specialists (Training, IAFIS,
Technology & Development, Major Incident, and Standards and Practices), and
physical science technicians
The Work
- Liaison with the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division and
the criminal justice community on all latent print-related IAFIS issues;
- Coordinate the deployment
of remote IAFIS search capabilities for the Disaster Squad or other special
operations teams;
- Develop, implement, and manags the infrastructure for the Disaster Squad
and other special operations teams, as well as the management of major/high
profile investigations;
- Draft, implement, and maintais the LPOU and LPSU Quality Assurance Manual
and Standards;

Coordinate with the Division Quality Assurance & Training Unit and administer
proficiency tests for LPOU and LPSU personnel; and
- Manage, coordinate, and direct the training programs for LPOU and LPSU
physical scientist (forensic examiners); new LPOU and LPSU managers;
and LPOU and LPSU continuing education training.
