2008 Annual Fire Conference

March 31 - April 2, 2008

The conference theme is “How Have Fires Changed in the Past 50 Years”. Presentations include invited speakers addressing the impact of modern fuels on fire growth and spread, whether or not building/fire codes have kept up, how the fire service has responded to these changes, has the role for materials or fire retardants changed, and are fire models able to simulate all the changes. NIST Staff, grantees, representatives of codes developing organizations, fire and building professionals, and experts from government, academia, and industry are invited to attend.

Objectives:
To provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of fire research projects that impact first responders, fire fighting technology, fire and building codes/standards, fire-resistant materials, and fundamental combustion science.

Submission Due Date:
One page abstracts describing technical contents are due February 7, 2008. Authors should indicate their preference for oral or poster presentations. Authors will be notified of acceptance of submissions as either a poster or as an oral presentation by February 14. The last date for submission of posters is March 22.

The Conference will be held on the NIST Campus in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  General hotel information and directions to NIST can be found at http://www.nist.gov/public_affairs/visitor/visitor.htm.  A block of rooms has been reserved for the nights of March 30 - April 1 , 2008 at the Holiday Inn Gaithersburg, Two Montgomery Village Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD 20879.
