AIDSinfo Launches New Web Site Design on World AIDS Day 2004

HHS's AIDSinfo is celebrating World AIDS Day 2004 and its second anniversary with a new Web site design. World AIDS day is an annual global event dedicated to remembering the victims of AIDS, learning more about the devastating effects of the disease around the world, and reaffirming the commitment to fight it. The AIDSinfo staff contributes to the battle against HIV/AIDS by offering trustworthy information on research, clinical trials, prevention and treatment via the AIDSinfo Web site and by responding to inquiries by phone, fax, postal and e-mail.

The new AIDSinfo Web site design features a more intuitive layout and consistent navigation. The colorful design, along with improved search functions, makes the site more accessible and useful for health care providers, researchers, patients, families, and friends. The site is also rich in resources because of the significantly increased number of materials available for viewing online, downloading onto Pocket PC/Palm PDAs, and printing from PDFs.

Since AIDSinfo began in 2002, the Web site has served 2.3 million visitors and facilitated more than 2 million downloads of federal treatment guidelines. The newest service, Live Help, enables Web site visitors to communicate confidentially with the staff in real time to get assistance with navigating AIDSinfo and National Library of Medicine sites and finding federally approved information on HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention, research and more. Twenty-three AIDSinfo fact sheets for consumers were produced and are readily available on the Web site. In addition to Web site services, English- and Spanish-speaking information specialists responded to over 23,700 inquiries.
