Source: VCIS Survey, Part I, questions 1, 2, 4, and 5.

  1. Total children served equals children in care at start plus children entering care.
  2. The source of these data is the Current Population Reports, P-25-1127.
  3. The entry rate is the percent of children entering care out of the total number of children served.
  4. The exit rate is the percent of children exiting care out of the total number of children served.
  5. The trend rate is the percentage change in the number of children in care (the number of children in care on the last day less the number of children in care on the first day), out of the total number of children in care on the first day of the reporting period.
  6. The prevalence rate is the percent of children served out of the under 21 population.
