NASS Publishes an In-Depth Analysis on the Demographics of U.S. Farm Operators

WASHINGTON, Feb. 17, 2005 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) has published an in-depth analysis titled, "What We Know about the Demographics of U.S. Farm Operators." The paper, prepared by Rich Allen, NASS Deputy Administrator for Programs and Products, and Ginger Harris, NASS Statistician, is one of the first attempts to glean meaning from new statistics collected for the first time during the 2002 Census of Agriculture, including the total number of operators on each farm, demographic information for the first three operators, and the number of individuals living in each operator household. The information will be presented on Feb. 25, 2005 at the USDA's 2005 Agricultural Outlook Forum. The complete narrative and set of tables are available at http://www.nass.
