Elias Adam Zerhouni,
M.D., became the 15th Director
of the National Institutes of Health on May 20, 2002, by appointment
of the U.S. President.
Since his appointment,
Dr. Zerhouni has initiated the creation of a new research vision
for the NIH, which focuses the attention of the biomedical research
community on new pathways of discovery, research teams for the future,
and the re-engineering of the clinical research enterprise. This
vision is known as the NIH
Roadmap for Medical Research.
