Project Description: This project will measure and evaluate patient-focused outcomes; health-related quality of lie and lost workplace and non-workplace productivity.  The research objectives are:

  • To validate a patient-focused primary headache questionnaire.
  • To determine methodologies for valuing lost productivity.
  • To determine patient outcomes using the validated questionnaire.
  • To develop a predictive model to determine the variables associated with decreased health-related quality of life and increased lost productivity for patients with primary headache.
  • To develop a proposal for a healthcare program to improve patients' health-related quality of life and decrease lost productivity.

Career Goals: Dr. Lofland has received her M.P.H. from Johns Hopkins University during the first year of this award, and has subsequently enrolled in a doctoral program at the Department of Health Policy and Management, Health Services Research. She has is in the second year of the doctoral program and has passed the departmental qualifying exam. Dr. Lofland plans on becoming an independent health services researcher.

Progress to Date: Dr. Lofland received her Ph.D. after completing her dissertation "Access to Health Care and Workplace Productivity for Patients with Migraine Headache".

Future Plans: Dr. Lofland will submit several manuscripts for professional publication.
