Figure 8.6 is titled "Reasons for Not Receiving Treatment in the Past Year among Persons Aged 18 or Older with an Unmet Need for Treatment Who Did Not Receive Treatment: 2003." It is a bar graph, where the horizontal axis represents the percentage among adults who did not receive treatment, and the vertical axis represents reasons for not receiving treatment.

Among adults with an unmet need for treatment who did not receive treatment in the past year, 45.1% did not receive treatment because of cost or insurance issues, 40.6% because they did not feel the need for treatment or could handle the problem without treatment, 22.9% because they did not know where to go for services, 22.8% because of stigma, 18.1% because they did not have time, 10.3% because treatment would not help, 7.2% because of the fear of being committed or of having to take medicine, and 3.7% because of access barriers other than cost.
