Figure 7.3 is titled "Past Year Illicit Drug or Alcohol Dependence or Abuse, by Age Group and Substance: 2002 and 2003." It is a bar graph, where the horizontal axis represents age groups by year, and the vertical axis represents the percentage dependent or abusing in the past year. Within each age group by year category, the bar is separated into three sections of substance type: Both Alcohol and Illicit Drug, Illicit Drug Only, and Alcohol Only. For each age group, year, and substance type combination, the percentage dependent or abusing is as follows:

In 2002, the percentage of 12 to 17 year olds dependent on or abusing both alcohol and illicit drugs was 2.5%, illicit drugs only was 3.1%, and alcohol only was 3.4%.
In 2003, the percentage of 12 to 17 year olds dependent on or abusing both alcohol and illicit drugs was 2.2%, illicit drugs only was 3.0%, and alcohol only was 3.7%.
In 2002, the percentage of 18 to 25 year olds dependent on or abusing both alcohol and illicit drugs was 4.2%, illicit drugs only was 4.0%, and alcohol only was 13.5%.
In 2003, the percentage of 18 to 25 year olds dependent on or abusing both alcohol and illicit drugs was 4.0%, illicit drugs only was 3.8%, and alcohol only was 13.2%.
In 2002, the percentage of persons 26 years old or older dependent on or abusing both alcohol and illicit drugs was 0.7%, illicit drugs only was 1.1%, and alcohol only was 5.5%.
In 2003, the percentage of persons 26 years old or older dependent on or abusing both alcohol and illicit drugs was 0.7%, illicit drugs only was 1.0%, and alcohol only was 5.3%.
