Figure 2.9 is titled "Past Month Illicit Drug Use among Youths Aged 12 to 17, by Race/Ethnicity: 2002 and 2003." It is a bar graph with two notes on the bottom of the page. Note 1 reads, "Due to low precision, estimates for Native Hawaiians or Other Pacific Islanders are not shown." Note 2 reads, "Statistically significant differences (at 0.05 level) between 2002 and 2003 are denoted by '+.'" The horizontal axis of the graph represents race/ethnicity, and the vertical axis represents the percentage using in the past month. There are six categories of race/ethnicity: white, black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, two or more races, and Hispanic or Latino. Within each of the race/ethnicity categories there is a bar for 2002 and a bar for 2003. For each race/ethnicity and year combination, the percentage with past month illicit drug use among persons aged 12 to 17 is as follows:

The percentage of white youths using in the past month was 12.6% in 2002 and 11.8% in 2003.
The percentage of black or African American youths using in the past month was 10.0% in 2002 and 9.6% in 2003.
The percentage of American Indian or Alaska Native youths using in the past month was 20.9% in 2002 and 19.3% in 2003.
The percentage of Asian youths using in the past month was 4.8% in 2002 and 6.5% in 2003.
The percentage of youths with two or more races using in the past month was 12.5% in 2002 and 15.1% in 2003.
The percentage of Hispanic or Latino youths using in the past month was 10.7% in 2002 and 11.0% in 2003.

None of the differences between 2002 and 2003 were significant at the 0.05 level.
