Figure 2.8 is titled "Past Month Illicit Drug Use among Persons Aged 12 or Older, by Race/Ethnicity: 2002 and 2003." It is a bar graph, with the following note below the graph: "Statistically significant differences (at 0.05 level) between 2002 and 2003 are denoted by '+.'" The horizontal axis of the graph represents race/ethnicity, and the vertical axis represents the percentage using in the past month. There are seven categories of race/ethnicity: white, black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, Asian, two or more races, and Hispanic or Latino. Within each of the race and ethnicity categories there is a bar for 2002 and a bar for 2003. For each race/ethnicity and year combination, the percentage with past month illicit drug use among persons aged 12 and older is as follows:

The percentage of whites using in the past month was 8.5% in 2002 and 8.3% in 2003.
The percentage of Blacks or African Americans using in the past month was 9.7% in 2002 and 8.7% in 2003.
The percentage of American Indians or Alaska Natives using in the past month was 10.1% in 2002 and 12.1 % in 2003.
The percentage of Native Hawaiians or Other Pacific Islanders using in the past month was 7.9% in 2002 and 11.1% in 2003.
The percentage of Asians using in the past month was 3.5% in 2002 and 3.8% in 2003.
The percentage of persons with two or more races using in the past month was 11.4% in 2002 and 12.0% in 2003.
The percentage of Hispanics or Latinos using in the past month was 7.2% in 2002 and 8.0% in 2003.

None of the differences between 2002 and 2003 were significant at the 0.05 level.
