Figure 2.10 is titled "Past Month Illicit Drug Use among Persons Aged 12 or Older, by County Type: 2002 and 2003." It is a bar graph, with the following note below the graph: "Statistically significant differences (at 0.05 level) between 2002 and 2003 are denoted by '+.'" The horizontal axis represents county type, and the vertical axis represents the percentage using in the past month. County type is broken down into two groups, and then further broken down into five categories within those groups; Metropolitan Areas includes Large counties and Small counties, and Nonmetropolitan Areas includes Urbanized counties, Less Urbanized counties, and Rural counties. Within each county type there is a bar for 2002 and a bar for 2003. For each county type and year combination, the percentage with past month illicit drug use among persons aged 12 or older is as follows:

The percentage of persons in large metropolitan counties using in the past month was 8.7% in 2002 and 8.3% in 2003.
The percentage of persons in small metropolitan counties using in the past month was 8.4% in 2002 and 8.6% in 2003.
The percentage of persons in urbanized nonmetropolitan counties using in the past month was 7.9% in both 2002 and 2003.
The percentage of persons in less urbanized nonmetropolitan counties using in the past month was 6.1% in 2002 and 7.0% in 2003.
The percentage of persons in rural nonmetropolitan counties using in the past month was 6.7% in 2002 and 3.1% in 2003. This is a significant difference at the 0.05 level.
