Prairie Stars Return Home on Saturday

Both the men's and women's squads will be in action on Saturday at TRAC.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Both the UIS men’s and women’s basketball teams will open extended home stands on Saturday when Columbia College comes to TRAC for an American Midwest Conference doubleheader.

The women’s game will open the day at 2 p.m. followed by the men’s contest at approximately 4 p.m. All UIS students as well as faculty and staff (including their immediate families) will receive free admission by showing their UIS ID card at the door.

The Prairie Star women’s team enters the weekend with a 3-12 overall record which includes a 1-2 ledger in AMC play. UIS posted its first league victory of the season on Thursday, beating Stephens, 59-55, in Columbia, Mo. behind 18 points from Erin Glogovsky. Alex Blair added 12 points (on four three-point field goals) and Jeanell Randolph had 10. Saturday’s game is the first of three consecutive home games for head coach Roy Gilmore’s squad.

The Lady Cougars are ranked 11th in the nation and are 15-1 overall including a perfect 2-0 record in AMC action. Columbia is coming off a 78-43 win at Stephens last Saturday.

The UIS men’s squad is currently 19th in the latest NAIA national Top 25 poll with an 11-3 overall record and a 2-0 slate in AMC play. The Prairie Stars dropped a non-conference road game on Thursday at Park, 76-67. Jeremy Winters led UIS with 16 points while Kelvin Johnson added 14. Saturday’s contest kicks off a four-game home stand for head coach Kevin Gamble’s squad.

Columbia brings a 12-4 overall record (1-1 in AMC play) to Springfield after dropping an 84-81 decision to Missouri Baptist on Thursday in Columbia, Mo.

The UIS athletics department will be selling Prairie Star t-shirts for $5 during Saturday’s double header.
