Unit Identifier

This data standard specifies the standard format and rules for Unit Identifier, a code used within the interagency wildland fire community to uniquely identify a particular goverment organizational unit or a non-government organization recognized by NWCG as a wildland fire cooperator.

NWCG data standards provide a specification that enables the common usage of data across wildland fire information systems. This data standard consists of the following:

• Meta-data definition – the rules needed to ensure the data format and data usage are standardized across automated systems. (Last updated: 01/2005) [58K, PDF]
• Standard data values – the actual standardized data used by the wildland fire community, often provided as a pick-list or look-up table. (This list is updated on the first day of each month.)
• Change process – the procedures describing how to make changes to the meta-data definition or the standard data values. (Last updated: 12/2002) [18K, PDF]
