Figure 9.2 is a bar graph showing rates of past year serious mental illness among adults aged 18 or older, by race and ethnic group in 2002. Rates of past year SMI were 13.6 for persons reporting 2 or more races, 12.5 percent for American Indian/Alaska Natives, 8.8 percent for blacks, 8.4 percent for whites, 7.5 percent for Asians, 6.9 percent for Hispanics, and 5.4 percent for Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islanders.
