Figure 4.3 is a bar graph that shows percentages of past month cigarette use among persons aged 12 or older in 2002 by age group and gender. Among youths aged 12 to 17, 12.3 percent of males and 13.6 percent of females used cigarettes in the past month. Among young adults aged 18 to 25, 44.4 percent of males and 37.1 percent of females smoked cigarettes in the past month. Past month cigarette use was 28.3 percent among males aged 26 or older and 22.5 percent among females aged 26 or older.
