Tietze syndrome is a type of cartilage disease.[1] Cartilage is the tough but flexible tissue that covers the ends of your bones at a joint. Tietze syndrome is characterized by pain and swelling of the joint between the sternum and the clavicle or of the joint between the sternum and second or third ribs.[2][3][4][5] The chest pain in Tietze syndrome can be confused with pain caused by heart disease.[1][2][3][4][5]
