Arcata Resident Gives BLM Reward Money to Wildlife Care Center

An Arcata area resident has donated reward money received from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to the Humboldt Wildlife Care Center (HWCC) in Arcata.
 
Eric Almquist, owner of Almquist Lumber Co., received the $1,000 reward when information he provided led to an arrest in the Jan. 15, 2008 theft of redwood rail fencing from the BLM’s Fleener Creek Trail overlook near Ferndale. 
 
"When all of us at the HWCC found out about this generous donation from Eric Almquist, we were amazed," said John Kelsey, president of the HWCC board of directors.  "At the time we did not know the amount of the reward.  We just thought it was so kind of Eric to pass the reward along to HWCC."
 
The Humboldt Wildlife Care Center, established in 1978, is a non-profit, permitted, volunteer organization that works on the rescue, treatment and rehabilitation of orphaned and injured wildlife in Humboldt, Trinity and Del Norte counties.
