Bureau of Land Management Announces "Dog Day" at Fort Ord

The fourth annual "Dog Day" event is scheduled for May 10 at the Fort Ord public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management.  The event begins at 9 a.m. and ends at noon. To find the festivities, follow "BLM Special Event" signs from Highway 1 or Imjin Road.

Eric Morgan, BLM manager at Fort Ord, says the family-fun festival is free and sure to be a hit with pet owners from around the Monterey area.

According to BLM Park Ranger Tammy Jakl, who is organizing the event, this fourth "Dog Day" event builds upon the successful events held the last three years.  "Dog Day is a chance to celebrate the great outdoors with your canine companion in a beautiful setting at Fort Ord," explained Jakl.

The festival includes contests and awards, pet fashion show, hikes, pet health and safety, training tips, information and prizes.  Pet owners will learn about the BLM’s Fort Ord public lands and be given an opportunity to hone their pet etiquette skills.

Co-sponsors of the canine festival include From the Heart Dog Training, Diggidy Dog, Posh Pet, Picture Perfect, Petco, VIP Pet Care Services, SPCA, Animal Friends Rescue Project, Salinas City Shelter, Pet Fun, Best Pet, Discount Screen Printing, and Coyote Scoop.
