Sullivan, M.D., has announced the appointment of Donna N. Givens as principal deputy assistant secretary, Administration for Children and Families. The Administration for Children and Families is the recently created HHS agency which merged the Office of Human Development Services with the Family Support Administration. "Donna Givens brings to this new position over 20 years of experience in federal, state and local human services programs. She will play a critical role in shaping programs and policies which impact on the needs of America's children and families," Secretary Sullivan said. Prior to her appointment as the principal deputy assistant secretary, Givens was the deputy assistant secretary for the HHS Office of Human Development Services--an $8.8 billion agency with programs serving the nation's children, youth and families; people with developmental disabilities; and Native Americans; and with funding to states for social services to help low-income families. Before that, she was a member of President Bush's transition team. Prior to that, she was a senior associate with the consulting firm of Eddie Mahe, Jr. and Associates in Washington, D.C. She also has been a manager for the Loudoun County Department of Social Services, Leesburg, Va., and did social work in Newport News, Va. She is a graduate of Wake Forest University in Winston- Salem, N.C., and is a native of Reidville, N.C. ###
