Sullivan, M.D., today announced the appointment of Louis D. Enoff, a 27-year veteran of the Social Security Administration, as principal deputy commissioner for Social Security. In this position, Enoff will serve as the senior deputy commissioner in an agency that currently has six deputy commissioners. As such, he will be providing daily leadership and direction to the internal administrative and regulatory processes of the Social Security Administration. "By distinguishing himself throughout his career, Louis Enoff has deservedly earned this recognition," said Gwendolyn S. King, commissioner of Social Security. "His expertise has been invaluable in the past and, as the top career professional in the agency, I will continue to look to Louis Enoff as SSA faces the many challenges of serving the American public with compassion and efficiency during these times of fiscal constraint." Since 1986, Enoff has served as SSA's deputy commissioner for programs, responsible for providing executive leadership and policy direction for the retirement, survivors and disability insurance programs and the Supplemental Security Income program, as well as overall responsibility for the operation of the agency's administrative appeals process. (More) - 2 - After joining SSA in 1964 as a claims examiner, Enoff was selected for the agency's Management Intern Program. Over the past 27 years he has served in a number of executive positions including deputy associate commissioner for management, budget and personnel, director of human resources, and deputy regional commissioner for Philadelphia. A graduate of West Virginia University, Enoff received his master's degree from George Washington University. A three-time recipient of SSA's highest award, the Commissioner's Citation, Enoff received the Presidential Rank Award of Distinguished Executive from President Ronald Reagan in 1983. The father of three children, he and his wife, Diane, reside in Sykesville, Md. ###
