Madoff Liquidation Trustee Mails More Than 8,000 Customer Claim Forms
WASHINGTON, D.C. – January 5, 2009 – Stephen Harbeck, president of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC), which maintains a special reserve fund authorized by Congress to help investors at failed brokerage firms, and Irving H. Picard, the court-appointed trustee for the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC (BLMIS) of New York, NY, issued the following joint statement today: “Pursuant to the order of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, Trustee Irving H. Picard mailed on Friday (January 2, 2009) the following: over 8,000 customer claim forms, with detailed instructions for the completion and filing of the forms with the trustee; claim forms and related information to general creditors of BLMIS; and claims filing information to brokers and dealers.… (more)

SIPC, Trustee Issue Statement on Initial Recovery of Assets in Madoff Liquidation Proceeding
WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 30, 2008 – Stephen Harbeck, president of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC), which maintains a special reserve fund authorized by Congress to help investors at failed brokerage firms, and Irving H. Picard, the court-appointed trustee for the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC of New York, NY, issued the following joint statement today: “We are pleased that today the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York approved the transfer of $29 million in debtor funds held by the Bank of New York (BONY). This is one of many steps that Trustee Irving H. Picard has taken and will continue to take to collect all available assets of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC for the future use of satisfying customer claims and other purposes.”… (more)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 15, 2008 – The Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC), which maintains a special reserve fund authorized by Congress to help investors at failed brokerage firms, announced today that it is liquidating Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC of New York, NY, under the Securities Investor Protection Act (SIPA). SIPC today filed an application with the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York for a declaration that the customers of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC are in need of the protections available under the SIPA… (more)
