GLOBE at Night Dataset File Formats and Field Names

FILE FORMATS:
GaN2008.csv - text file with comma-serparated-values

GaN2008.xls - Mircrosoft Excel Spreadsheet format, suitable for direct import into ArcGIS 9.2, AEJEE, and ArcGIS Explorer

GaN2008.mdb - ESRI personal geodatabase for use with ArcGIS 9.x.  NB: this is NOT a standard Microsoft Access database.

GaN2008_shp.zip - Zipped archive containing the 3 files that make up an ESRI Shapfile version of the data with .prj file.

GaN2008.kmz - zipped file for use with Google Maps


FIELDS:

LATITUDE= LATITUDE

LONTITUDE = LONTITUDE

OBSDATE = Date and time the observation was reported in format YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS where 

MAG = limiting magnitude as determined by magnitude chart observed (data range 1-7.  -9999 is no data)

SQMVALUE = sky quality meter (data range 6-25. -9999 is no data)

CLOUD_COVE = Estimate the cloud cover in the sky

COMMENTLOC= comments on location

COMMENTSKY = comments on sky conditions

COMMENTADD = additional comments

GMICNTRY = country code

CNTRYNAME= country of observation (only GLOBE countries recorded)
