The California Department of Mental Health directly provides mental health services and treatment to persons committed to treatment by the courts or the Board of Prison Terms to the Department of Mental Health.

We provide direct outpatient treatment in the Forensic Conditional Release Program (CONREP) and conduct evaluations of prison inmates who meet statutory criteria as Mentally Disordered Offenders (MDO).  The MDO population consists of inmates who are ordered into mental health treatment by the Board of Prison Terms as a condition of parole.  We also administer a Sex Offender Commitment Program (SOCP) for persons who are found, upon release from prison, to be sexually violent predators (SVPs).

For additional information about the forensic services provided by the California Department of Mental Health, please call the Forensic Services Branch at (916) 654-1471.
