Figure 13 is titled "Serious Mental Illness among Adults Aged 18 or Older, by Substance Dependence or Abuse: 2002." It is a bar graph, where the horizontal axis represents type of substance dependence or abuse and the vertical axis represents percent with serious mental illness. There are four categories for type of substance dependence or abuse: 1, no illicit drug or alcohol dependence or abuse; 2, alcohol dependence or abuse; 3, any illicit drug dependence or abuse; and 4, any illicit drug and alcohol dependence or abuse. For each category of substance dependence or abuse, the percentage with serious mental illness is as follows:

Of those who have no illicit drug or alcohol dependence or abuse, 7.0% have serious mental illness (SMI).
Of those who have alcohol dependence or abuse, 19.0% have SMI.
Of those who have any illicit drug dependence or abuse, 29.1% have SMI.
Of those who have any illicit drug and alcohol dependence or abuse, 30.1% have SMI.
