Geologic Sequestration Resources
Several federal agencies, national laboratories, non-governmental organizations, universities, and other entities can provide informational resources on geologic sequestration (GS) of carbon dioxide (CO2).
U.S. Federal Government Agencies
- Department of Energy
- DOE has published a Carbon Sequestration Technology Roadmap (PDF) that outlines the objectives of DOE's Carbon Sequestration Program.
- DOE's Office of Fossil Energy has sponsored numerous GS research and development efforts.
- DOE is directing the FutureGen Initiative, a project to develop an integrated GS and hydrogen production research power plant.
- DOE oversees GS the research and development efforts carried out by a network of Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnerships.
- U.S. Geological Survey – CO 2 Sequestration Research
U.S. National Laboratories
- National Energy Technology Laboratory
- NETL has developed a brief video on carbon capture and storage technology and the role this technology can play as a climate change mitigation strategy.
- NETL has also developed an interactive desktop geologic sequestration model that demonstrates the process of capturing and sequestering CO2 .
- NETL sponsors NatCarb, a project that links geological and emission databases from several regional centers into a single system.
- NETL's Carbon Sequestration Atlas presents a coordinated assessment of the capacity for CO2 storage across the United States and parts of western Canada.
- Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory – Geological Carbon Sequestration Program
- Los Alamos National Laboratory – Office of Fossil Energy & Environment
- Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
