NOTE TO EDITORS:
Five subcommittees of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's
Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards have scheduled meetings
in November in Rockville, Maryland. All meetings will be held in
Room T-2B3 of the NRC's Two White Flint North building at 11545
Rockville Pike.
- The subcommittee on plant license renewal will meet at 8:30 a.m.
on November 18 The subcommittee will discuss general issues
related to license renewal activities, and the status of the
staff's review of the applications for the Calvert Cliffs and
Oconee nuclear power plants.
- The subcommittee on thermal-hydraulic phenomena will meet from
8:30 a.m. until noon on November 19. The subcommittee will
review the Westinghouse methodology for best-estimate small-break
loss-of-coolant accident analysis, using the WCOBRA/TRAC code.
- Three other subcommittees - those on reliability and
probabilistic risk assessment, plant operations, and regulatory
policies and practices - will hold a joint meeting beginning at
1:00 p.m. on November 19 and at 8:30 a.m. November 20. The
subcommittees will continue their discussions of proposed options
to make 10 CFR Part 50.59 (changes, tests and experiments) risk
informed, and will review proposed changes to the NRC assessment
program for reactors. They will also discuss programs for risk-based analysis of reactor operating experience.
