Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the status of the Beaver Valley nuclear power plant and preparations for its restart during a meeting with operator Duquense Light Co. on Thursday, July 16. The two-reactor facility is located in Shippingport, Pa., northwest of Pittsburgh.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in the Emergency Response Facility Building at the site. It will be open to the public for observation.
Beaver Valley's Unit 1 reactor has been out of service since late January, Unit 2 since mid-December. In addition to working to correct equipment problems during the outages, plant personnel have been performing a comprehensive review and updating of Beaver Valley's technical specifications.
Duquense Light hopes to restart Unit 1 by mid-August, with Unit 2 coming back on line about a month later.
