Members of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff will meet with the public on Wednesday, May 13, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Las Vegas to discuss the status of the agency's pre-licensing program for a possible high-level radioactive waste repository that the Department of Energy may build and operate at Yucca Mountain, Nevada.
The meeting will be held at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Moyer Student Union Building, Lounge 201, 4505 South Maryland Parkway. Interested citizens are invited to attend and participate in the discussion. A sign-up period will begin at 5:30 p.m. for anyone wishing to make comments during the meeting.
The NRC will present an overview of its pre-licensing high-level waste repository program and the current status. Topics will include key technical issues, issue resolution, and the NRC's approach to review of the DOE's assessment of the viability of the Yucca Mountain site for waste disposal.
Representatives of the Department of Energy will also be present to answer questions.
After the opening presentations, interested members of the public will be invited to comment or ask questions.
