No. 98-60 April 24, 1998
A Nuclear Regulatory Commission Atomic Safety and Licensing Board will hold a hearing on an order issued in August 1997 prohibiting the former consultant of Newark Medical Associates from involvement in NRC-licensed activities for providing false information to the agency. The hearing for Aharon Ben-Haim, Ph.D., will be held on May 27, at 9:30 a.m., Room 206, of the Federal Building at 970 Broad Street, in Newark, New Jersey. Additional sessions on Dr. Ben-Haim's appeal, will be held, if needed, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on May 28 and 29.
Dr. Ben-Haim was barred from NRC-licensed activities for five years following an investigation of Newark Medical Associates, which holds an NRC license authorizing the possession and use of any NRC-licensed radiopharmaceutical for imaging and localization procedures. Dr. Ben-Haim served as a consultant to the organization.
The hearing will be open to public observation. Persons who are not parties to the proceeding will be permitted to make five-minute statements to the board at the outset of the first day of hearings. These statements do not constitute testimony or evidence, but may assist the licensing board and parties in defining the scope of the issues in the proceeding.
Requests to make oral statements may be submitted to the Office of the Secretary, Docketing and Service Branch, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory commission, Washington, D.C. 20555. A copy of each request should also be submitted to Judge Charles Bechhoefer, Chairman of this Licensing Board, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory commission, ASLBP, T-3 F23, Washington, D.C. 20555.
