Performance Is Superior In Three Areas And Good In Fourth
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has issued a Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance (SALP) report for the Browns Ferry nuclear power plant near Athens, Alabama, which indicates continued high performance in the areas assessed.
Browns Ferry is owned and operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority.
The NRC report assessed performance at Browns Ferry for a period from September 8, 1996 through April 18, 1998 in the functional areas of Plant Operations, Engineering, Maintenance and Plant Support.
Performance in the areas of Plant Operations and Plant Support remained in Category 1 (superior), as they were during the previous period of assessment. Maintenance improved from Category 2 (good) to Category 1. Engineering retained its previous assessment of Category 2.
NRC officials will discuss details of the evaluation with TVA management at a public meeting to be held at the plant site at noon on June 11. Members of the public are welcome to attend for purposes of observation, and NRC officials will be available at its conclusion to answer questions from interested observers.
