NRC, UTILITY TO DISCUSS INDIAN POINT 2 IMPROVEMENT PLANS
Plans for performance improvements at the Indian Point 2 nuclear power plant will be the subject of a meeting on Thursday, March 19, between Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff and managers of the facility. The plant, which is owned and operated by Consolidated Edison Company of New York, is located in Buchanan, N.Y.
The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Public Meeting Room at the NRC Region 1 Office in King of Prussia, Pa. It will be open to the public for observation.
Improvement plans were requested by the NRC in a letter sent to the utility on January 23. In that letter, NRC Region 1 Administrator Hubert J. Miller wrote that the agency was concerned about, among other things, equipment problems and weaknesses in human performance and plant processes at Indian Point 2.
At the meeting, Consolidated Edison will be expected to discuss these issues, its plans for addressing them and schedules and priorities for anticipated actions, including those things it plans to complete before the reactor goes back on-line. (The unit has been shut down since last October, after encountering problems with safety-related electrical breakers. Consolidated Edison currently projects that it will restart the plant in early April.)
