Research, Policy, Planning and GIS/Data System

HWDD periodically reviews California's counties to assess provider-to-population ratios, poverty levels, and public health indicators for eligibility to receive federal assistance for health care. The Healthcare Workforce Policy Commission ratifies the recommendations, known as Medical Service Study Areas (MSSAs), which qualifies sites for Song-Brown Program funding and California State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP) placements.
